As of October 5, 2021, Daiwabo Information System Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka, President: Hiroyuki Matsumoto, hereafter referred to as DIS), along with DIS Service & Solution Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka, President: Keizo Toyoda), a DIS group company, will offer “PC Guarantee Protection”, through DIS dealers, in collaboration with Daiwabo Lifesupport Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Tatsuya Tashiro), an associated company in the Daiwabo Holdings group. PC Guarantee Protection covers events such as malfunction, damage due to falling, and theft, and is subscribable even after one year has passed since the purchase of a PC.
Responding to the coronavirus catastrophe, the GIGA (Global and Innovation Gateway for All) school initiative promoted by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) made a great deal of progress in fiscal year 2020, with many PCs having been introduced into elementary and junior high schools, toward the goal of a terminal for every pupil and student. However, out of the roughly 9.4 million terminals in schools, 0.2% or 18,000 units are said to be either damaged or lost (preliminary figure from MEXT’s survey on the utilization of terminals as of July 31, 2021), and most of the PCs introduced under the GIGA school initiative are approaching their second year of use, when the manufacturer’s standard warranty will expire. Therefore, it is highly likely that malfunction repair expenses will soon pose a serious challenge for schools.
DIS’s PC Guarantee Protection is aimed at PCs (including tablets) that have already been introduced under the GIGA school initiative. Although users must subscribe to the standard warranty service when they purchase a PC, PC Guarantee Protection is subscribable even after one year has passed since the purchase of a PC. In addition, local governments and educational committees that did not purchase an extension to the manufacturer’s warranty, due to financial constraints at the time of purchase, can purchase PC Guarantee Protection.
Outline of PC Guarantee Protection
- Customers can specify the warranty period on a monthly basis, thereby minimizing costs.
- Available for all PCs, regardless of manufacturer, except for self-built PCs
- Covers spontaneous failure, water exposure, breakage, cracked screen, fire, and theft
*Deliberate breakage, battery drain, and aging are ineligible.
DIS and DIS Service & Solution Co., Ltd. are respectively responsible for the sale and design of the service, and Daiwabo Lifesupport Co., Ltd. is responsible for service operations.
